What is a performance agreement?

It sets the details of the live performance, including date, time, location, set length, compensation, technical requirements, promotion rules, and cancellation terms.

When should you use a performance agreement?

Use it as soon as a performance is booked and before the event is publicly promoted. It’s especially important when deposits are paid, travel is involved, the venue provides equipment, the performance is recorded, or the event has strict timing and noise rules.

What should be included in a performance agreement?

It should include event details, performance time and duration, soundcheck schedule, technical rider requirements, compensation and deposit terms, travel and lodging, merch sales rules, recording and photography permissions, cancellation/rescheduling terms, and basic liability/insurance clauses.

Who is responsible for equipment and technical setup?

It depends on the event. Sometimes the venue provides sound, lighting, and a technician; other times the performer brings equipment. The agreement should clearly list the technical rider, who provides what, and what happens if equipment isn’t available or the venue setup changes.

Can the organizer record the performance?
